Student Support
Once a student is identified as having a diagnosed disability, the academic support team (which includes the resource teacher, classroom teacher, and parent) develops a Student Education Plan (SEP), which outlines accommodations for the student. Depending on the students’ needs, accommodations can be provided one-on-one, in small groups or in the classroom.
NCA provides the following services that align to the individual needs of support students, or students with learning differences.
Bridges
- Early Intervention: SEARCH and TEACH
- Reading remediation: Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia, Wilson Reading System
- Executive functioning: SMARTS, individualized support
- General academic support: Testing accommodations, curriculum accommodations and modifications, one-on-one and small group support
Towers
The Towers program will allow NCA to reach a wider range of learners.  It is designed to serve students who would not flourish within the rigor and pace of a standard NCA class, because of any number of moderate to significant learning differences or disabilities, who need full-time individual (or small group) instruction with a level of accommodation above that of the Bridges program (which helps students who are struggling in particular subjects, falling behind, or who have mild learning disabilities) but not that of a full special needs program (which would serve students with intellectual disabilities).  The name Towers has been given to reflect that this program is intended for learners on a singular course of growth, building them a strong foundation, and brick by brick, stone by stone, raising them to new heights.
